This position is responsible for the delivery of Whole Health Coaching and skill development of the local Medical Center's Whole Health Coach program, including provision of care through coaching and promotion and education regarding Whole Health Coaching to Veterans and staff. The position is integral to supporting Whole Health Coaches and Veterans in navigating the Whole Health Journey through the Pathway, wellbeing, and Whole Health clinical care elements of the Whole Health System. Individual Occupational Requirements (Basic Requirements) Possess a degree: behavioral or social science; or related disciplines appropriate to the position. (TRANSCRIPTS REQUIRED) OR Possess a combination of education and experience that provided the applicant with knowledge of one or more of the behavioral or social sciences equivalent to a major in the field. (TRANSCRIPTS REQUIRED) OR Possess four years of appropriate experience that demonstrated that the applicant has acquired knowledge of one or more of the behavioral or social sciences equivalent to a major in the field. In addition to meeting the basic requirements above, you must also meet the minimum qualification requirements for this position. Minimum Qualification Requirements for GS-7 Superior Academic Achievement at the GS-7 level: (SAA) at the baccalaureate level in the coursework detailed above is fully qualifying. Applicants who wish to apply under this provision must submit proof from their educational institution that they meet one of the criteria listed below. To qualify for SAA, applicants must have completed all the requirements for a bachelor's degree in a curriculum described above for the position to be filled and meet one of the following: Rank in the upper one-third of your class in the college, university or major subdivision. A grade-point average of "B" (a GPA of 2.95 or higher out of a possible 4.0) for all completed undergraduate courses, or those completed in the last two years of undergraduate study. A grade point average of "B+" (a GPA of 3.45 or higher out of a possible 4.0) for all courses in your major field of study, or those courses in your major completed in the last two years of undergraduate study. Membership in a national honor society (other than freshman honor societies) recognized by the Association of College Honor Societies. OR Possess at least one full year of graduate level study or possess a master's or Ph.D. in a field as stated above that provided the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work. (TRANSCRIPTS REQUIRED) OR Possess at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-5 grade level in Federal service. Specialized experience is providing health coaching for patients to reduce or eliminate high-risk behaviors while increasing healthy ones; reviewing current health behaviors and developing customized treatment plans with patients; utilizing motivational interviewing and health coaching techniques and processes, learned through prerequisite health coach training to assist patients in developing a realistic plan to accomplish their goals. OR Possess a combination of successfully completed graduate education and experience to meet total qualification requirements for the grade level. To be computed by first determining the total qualifying experience as a percentage of the experience required for the grade level; then determining the education as a percentage of the education required for the grade level; and then adding the two percentages. The total percentages must equal at least 100 percent to qualify an applicant for that grade level. ["This position involves a multi-grade career ladder. The major duties listed below represent the full performance level of GS-9. At the GS-7 grade level, you will perform assignments of a more limited scope and with less independence. You will progressively acquire the background necessary to perform at the full performance level of GS-9. Conducts interventions for Veterans using one-on-one, couple, or group modalities in outpatient, inpatient, and virtual settings. Identify habits and behaviors that are harmful to quality of life and related to chronic illness. Coordinates care with Veterans' treatment providers, both primary and specialty care, to ensure identified goals are consistent with best practices for treatment and management of chronic illness. Utilizes motivational interviewing and health coaching techniques and processes, learned through prerequisite health coach training, to assist members in developing a realistic plan to accomplish their goals. Develops trust with Veterans and incorporates trust principles in day-to-day activities. Works collaboratively within a team setting to provide positive outcomes for participants, peers and overall operations. Maintains education and knowledge regarding lifestyle (habits and behaviors) and clinical outcomes, including behaviors that improve Veterans' health and well-being and those related to poor clinical outcomes. Develops information for Veterans about the Whole Health Group and Individual Programs. Collaborates with internal and external resources for supporting the Veteran's Whole Health Journey by developing resource lists for well-being support within the facility and in the local community. Performs other related duties as assigned.
