The Primary Purpose of the position is to provide Social Work Supervision to Social Workers assigned to Social Work Service and may maintain a clinical practice caseload depending on workload in the assigned area. The organizational location of the position is: in Social Worker Service at Dallas, Ft. Worth, Garland, Bonham and all CBOC facilities within VA North Texas Health Care System (VANTHCS), Dallas, TX. Basic Requirements: United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy. Education. Have a master's degree in social work from a school of social work fully accredited by the Council on Social Work Education (CSWE). Graduates of schools of social work that are in candidacy status do not meet this requirement until the School of Social Work is fully accredited. A doctoral degree in social work may not be substituted for the master's degree in social work. Verification of the degree can be made by going to http://www.cswe.org/Accreditation to verify that the social work degree meets the accreditation standards for a masters of social work. Licensure. Persons hired or reassigned to social worker positions in the GS-0185 series in VHA must be licensed or certified by a state to independently practice social work at the master's degree level. May qualify based on being covered by the Grandfathering Provision as described in the VA Qualification Standard for this occupation (only applicable to current VHA employees who are in this occupation and meet the criteria). Preferred Experience: Case Management Mental Health Crisis Intervention Data Collection, management and presentation Assessments and Evaluations Working with Homeless Veteran in encampments and shelters for placement Supportive and psychotherapeutic therapies Grade Determinations: Supervisory Social Worker, GS-12 Experience/Education. One year of experience equivalent to the GS-11 grade level. Experience must demonstrate possession of advanced practice skills in a specialty area or in administration demonstrating progressively more professional competency and judgment. Candidate may have certification or other post-master's degree training from a nationally recognized professional organization or university that includes a defined curriculum/course of study and internship, or equivalent supervised professional experience. Licensure/Certification. Senior social workers must be licensed or certified by a state at the advanced practice level which included an advanced generalist or clinical examination, unless they are grandfathered by the state in which they are licensed to practice at the advanced practice level (except for licenses issued in California, which administers its own clinical examination for advanced practice) and they must be able to provide supervision for licensure. Demonstrated Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities. In addition to the experience above, the candidate must demonstrate all of the following KSAs: (a) Ability to independently organize work, set priorities, and meet multiple deadlines. (b) Knowledge of supervisory duties which includes clinical supervision, consultation, negotiation with other departments and quality improvement. (c) Ability to ensure provision of clinical social work services. (d) Ability to provide staff training and development. (e) Skill in interpersonal relationships in dealing with employees, team leaders, and managers. The incumbent interprets and explains VA's treatment and benefit programs. The HCHV Supervisory Outreach Social Worker evaluates the client's situation, including the Veteran's reaction and ability to deal with it, and arrives at a reasoned conclusion. The incumbent uses professional judgment and practice skills, based on the psychosocial assessment to establish treatment. The incumbent performs insightful assessment of cases involving mental health illness. The HCHV Supervisory Outreach Social Worker finds a suitable means of treatment to help Veterans and/or significant others to cope with stressful situations. The incumbent works with treatment teams to help Veterans find practical solutions to problems. The HCHV Supervisory Outreach Social Worker develops psychosocial treatment plans in coordination with interdisciplinary team members. The incumbent uses known available resources and the initial assessment of the Veteran's likelihood to accept differing types of assistance, make initial and continuing decisions regarding use of VA and non-VA services and referrals as she/he develop treatment plans. The incumbent provides consultation and makes recommendations to interdisciplinary team on course of treatment. The incumbent assists the Veteran to obtain screening of patients for specific mental health, VA and Community programs and provides ongoing treatment per mental health program and social work practice guidelines. The HCHV Supervisory Outreach Social Worker provides services to Veterans and family members/significant others in support of the Veteran's treatment. The incumbent gives advice, guidance, emotional support, and other assistance. The incumbent assists and encourages Veterans and significant others in facing problems. The HCHV Supervisory Outreach Social Worker establishes a continuing relationship with the Veteran, evaluating progress towards goals and adjusting the treatment plan as appropriate. The incumbent meets with Veteran to assess accomplishments and re-establish goals. The incumbent monitors Veteran's progress, maintains comprehensive documentation. The incumbent makes recommendations for care and changes to interdisciplinary treatment plan. The HCHV Supervisory Outreach Social Worker interfaces with organizations within the community as directed by the incumbent's immediate supervisor. The incumbent participates in community outreach programs and services or as assigned by the incumbent's immediate supervisor. The HCHV Supervisory Outreach Social Worker participates in the overall activities of Mental Health Services and the Medical Center as requested or needed.
