Associate Medical Director, Epidemiology and Infection Prevention Lifespan – Rhode Island Hospital Providence, Rhode Island As Rhode Island’s largest health system and private employer, Lifespan is dedicated to improving the health of the people within our communities. Serving as Associate Medical Director, Epidemiology and Infection Prevention at Rhode Island Hospital, you will develop, maintain and systematically evaluate the quality and effectiveness of the system-wide program designed to identify, reduce and prevent healthcare-associated infections. Duties include: - Directing infection prevention activities on adult inpatients units and related outpatient ambulatory settings and supporting the Medical Director
- Providing strategic leadership in the development, implementation and evaluation of a comprehensive and aligned Infection Prevention and Control Plan
- Collaborating in research and other scholarly activities
- Advising senior leadership regarding compliance with infection prevention and controlling regulatory requirement
- Determining and implementing best practices to prevent healthcare-associated infections and evaluating methods and technologies to reduce risk of healthcare-associated infections within inpatient and outpatient settings
- Supporting and guiding the identification and investigation of clusters or outbreaks and providing guidance for infection preventionists
- Providing guidance for Lifespan Employee Occupational Health Services Medical Director regarding management of employees epidemiologically linked to healthcare-associated infections
- Providing support for developing educational material for healthcare workers
- Partnering with antimicrobial stewardship leaders to develop and refine selection process
- Tracking and implementing strategies to reduce the occurrence and transmission of multidrug-resistant organisms and difficile infection
- Reviewing and guiding the development and updating of written policies to protect patients
- Communicating and collaborating with quality, patient safety and performance improvement leadership and professionals on infection control issues
- Supporting the infection prevention department in the development of audits/observation processes for evaluating the adherence to infection prevention and control policies and procedures
- Collaborating with the Medical Director and Director of Infection Prevention in the review and annual risk assessment with input from infection prevention professionals, medical staff, patient care services and members of leadership
QUALIFICATIONS - MD or DO with adult infection diseases fellowship training
- Significant experience in healthcare epidemiology and infection prevention (post-fellowship) or significant and documented dedicated time during fellowship training
- Attendance at infection prevention or control educational programs offered by SHEA, the Centers for Disease Control (CD) or other equivalent agencies
- Expert-level knowledge in healthcare-associated infection prevention and control
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Strong organizational skills and ability to prioritize projects
- Initiative and ability to work independently
- Attention to detail
- Graduate-level training/education in Public Health, Epidemiology or related field preferred
- Training in biostatistics preferred
